Mohenjo Daro (HISTORY AND PICTURES)

Mohenjodaro was located in the Sind Province, which is in south of Modern Pakistan. It was situated on the right bank of the Indus River. Mohenjodaro Pakistan was established between 4000 and 5000 years ago. Mohenjodaro and Harappan Civilization are the most important places included in Pakistan Heritage Tourism.

Mohenjodaro in
Pakistan was about one square mile in size. Mohenjodaro was the hub of Indus valley civilization, which is one of the oldest civilizations. It was the most planned city at that point of time. During the period of Indus valley civilization, about 5000 people used to live in Mohenjodaro. The city was divided into two parts. The Citadel accommodated the huge tank or bath, which had fine brickwork and systematic drainage system. This whole part was surrounded by a veranda. On the other side, there were the giant granary, well planned residential complex and two assembly halls. The lower city was build to the east of the Citadel. The streets were straight and connected every part of the city. Thus it is firmly believed that Mohenjodaro was indeed a well planned city.

Mohenjodaro was the first place to start the usage of bricks, which were made of mud or wood. In fact there was very little usage of stones in building up the city. However Mohenjodaro was completely destroyed when
Indus River changed its course. The whole civilization went under water and there are only remains of it left, which still now attracts great number of tourists from all over the world.
